Family Outing

October 7, 2008

We are truly slacking in the blog-posting department.  Who knew a jobless life could be so busy?  Oh wait, that’s just me these days-Karolyn, that is!  Caitlin has been filling her time nannying, coaching water polo, and administrative assistanting (not a verb, I know).  Jojo has taken a job with a new company called Bee Mobile–not sure what all it entails quite yet, but maybe we’ll find out soon!  She’s also become quite the surfing pro these days with her new surfboard, Hornito.  Jamie continues to occupy herself by pouring herself into coaching, planning her alumni event, and loving her swimmers.  And, actually, I’ve just taken a job as a basketball official and that should be getting underway next week!  And tomorrow I will be meeting with a lady named Christine who needs help with her English–should be fun!

Anyways, we had one of our first family outings last weekend, and I believe it is worthy of sharing here on a post.  We’ll see if I do it justice!  A good friend of ours, Marlena, and her band had a show up in Escondido.  Well, since we’ve been trying for the last three years to make it to one-we finally had no excuses!  So, on we went.  In one car, we had me, Jojo, Caitlin, Steph and Kayla.   Meeting us there were Jen D and Lena along with Jamie and Jenny.  It was a full house!  The setting was cute-a random little diner/restaurant/place with a stage that had more of a coffee house feel to me.  Until there was a little situation outside involving a bulldog, a bloody nose, and cops.  Really, where were we?  It’s all fun and games ’til someone tries to steal a dog.

However, this led to Jen and I having a good conversation with a lady there at the bar.  Complete with her own suitcase, pool stick, wig, and a lot of anger.  We ended up praying for her and it was so neat at the end when we were about to say ‘Amen’–she said, ‘oh no, now it’s my turn’ and continued on with her prayer for us.  Really awesome!  Marlena’s show was great, although I was a little distracted by all that was going on and definitely will be going back to another!  Another five people showed up towards the end of the show and we stayed and watched a couple other people perform.

Then came time to head home.  I had received a text from Jamie asking me to text when we almost got home so that they could pull a prank on Jojo.  I was amused by this idea and was looking forward to seeing what it was all about.  Although I typically am not on the giving or receiving end of these pranks that FCA is oh so famous for, I definitely appreciate them :-)  Anyways, sitting in Jojo’s car we got stuck at a light.  And I mean stuck.  There was a train that clearly was not moving nor planning on moving.  We waited at a stop for five solid minutes and there was definitely no escape.  However, we were in Jojo’s car.  So, rather than wait with the 25 other cars that had accumulated by this time, she saw an escape.  And it wasn’t merely hopping a curb.  There was like an entire plaza area including planters, trees, and bus stops–but directly behind it was a parking lot to freedom.  So, I screamed, hung out, others laughed, and over she drove.  A rather frightening experience really.

Anyways, we made it successfully to the other side and continued to try to find a street that wasn’t being blocked by this gigantic train that was seemingly resting for the evening.  As we made our happy way onward, there it was.  The lights.  The sirens.  The cop.  Needless to say, we were a little shaken up.  Jojo carefully pulled off into another parking lot to wait for Mr. Escondido Cop to come up to the window.  At this point, I texted Jamie letting her know a prank might not be the best idea.  The cop said that she was speeding and had excessive lane changes.  Thankfully, he left out the part regarding jumping curbs!  He was quite the character and Jojo probably said ‘sir’ a total of 27 times-a true Southern Bell really.  All I remember was the end of the conversation that went something like this. “Alright, young lady, you need to do yourself and everyone else here a favor and learn the laws of this state.  You get one break and one break only.”  WHEW!!  I immediately texted Jamie: game on.

Upon arriving at Casa Schneple, Steph and Jamie were fully equipped with whipped cream (after several failed attempts at finding silly string).  They jumped out from the bushes and attacked poor Jojo.  I attempted to record the whole thing only to find out that the camera I was using didn’t have sound.  Bummer!  It was still quite amusing to watch the whole thing go down.  Turns out Jojo was holding Steph’s purse and there was a whole lot of whipped cream all over the place–which was quickly taken care of by me and my hosing capabilities.  There was water everywhere, whipped cream everywhere, etc.  Soon enough the whipped cream was gone, Jojo vowed revenge, and everyone showered.

We all agreed this was a blog-worthy status, however, I might not have fully conveyed how it all happened.  Hopefully a little bit :-)  Anyways, the weekend was fun.  We spent Saturday at the beach–arriving just in time for the clouds to roll in and the sun to disappear.  It was still fun throwing around the ball and resting and reading.  We left after we got too tired, and Bekah drove down after her tournament and Bekah Wofford also swang by to bless us  for her presence for dinner.  We then got our stuff together, got glammed up, and headed out for a night of dancing on the town!

Sunday came and went-I spent a majority of my time working a basketball clinic in the morning.  Came home for a wonderful brunch of Monkey Bread and eggs.  Delish!  So, life here at Casa Schneple continues to roll along!  Jen and I spent the weekend up in San Francisco and Caitlin was up in Santa Clarita.  We are trying to be more deliberate and intentional about this community God has placed us in, although it’s difficult with all of us with different schedules!  So, pray for us–that we would take advantage of this opportunity to be here living life together.  That we would love each other, challenge each other, grow together, and serve together.

The Happenings

September 22, 2008

Hello, beautiful people!  It’s Karolyn checking in here to report some on the Casa Schneple Happenings.  It’s almost like there’s been so much, yet so little, going on here at the same time-it’s difficult to put into words.  Let me think of some interesting points to take note of:

  • Half of the home is now employed-Caitlin is nannying and coaching water polo.  Jojo had an interview last week, and two more in the works for this week.  Karolyn has decided to stay unemployed for the time being.
  • Karolyn, Caitlin, and our “homeless” friend of the month, Jen (yes, another Jen) all headed home this weekend.  Home being Arizona.  Caitlin got to see friends from school in Goodyear (and one drove in from Tucson), and Jen and Karolyn both got to see their respective-and each other’s-friends and family.  Good times in Scottsdale!
  • I think I can speak for all of us when I say that last week was one of discouragement on all of our parts.  Not sure what was going on other than some sort of debbie downer attack.  We’re all feeling better going into this week and making sure we CLING TO JESUS with all this stuff going on!  Folks, we’ve come out of the bitter barn and are ready to play in the hay!
  • Since moving in over a month ago, we have only had ONE night where it has been the four of us.  It’s taken some adjusting at times, but I believe we all now fully embrace it and see that the Lord has blessed us with much space to reach out to others.  It can get quiet around here when people aren’t here!  I have loved all the people that come over, and we’ve even invested in a Guest Book.  Please remind us to have you sign it when you come.  Thanks.
  • Our upstairs deck continues to be a wonderful place for phone conversations, reading, napping, and sun bathing.  We have had the lawn chair collapse with several of us in it-separately, that is, but on different occassions and to different people (namely myself and Jen).  That makes for some loud noises down in the family room and lots of laughter and embarrassment on the roof.
  • Jojo is currently representing Casa Schneple at a fundraiser Golf Tournament, somehow affiliated with FCA.  Being gone most weekends, I tend to miss much of the goings-on around these parts so try to catch up as quickly as I can!
  • This upcoming weekend, several OC friends will be making their way down here for some down time, concerts (Marlena’s!), beach time, and certainly good conversation and much laughter!  Casa Schneple is patiently awaiting their arrival!

I believe that’s it for now–I’ll let the roommates know we need to add to this more consistently (sorry, Rals)–and we really need to update our Bios from our first entry.  We’ll get to it someday  :-)   It’s crazy how busy things get even without jobs!  How did I ever have time for work anyway?

yesterday jojo, jamie, jamie’s old teammate (who is from australia) and i went to the beach. it was beautiful. sunny & warm but breezy so you didn’t get too hot. perfect!

i saw kite surfers for the first time. there were tons out on the water & some of them were getting some massive air. it was pretty sweet. jojo & i threw the football a little and then jamie & jojo went surfing while i relaxed on the beach- i get a little scared of the animals in the ocean.

it was fun because jojo got to use her new board for the first time-it’s a really sweet green… a color that all residence of casa schneple adore : )

amazing green board on right (oh... jamie's board is pretty sweet too)

note: amazing green board on right

we had a full day at the beach & then we headed back home. went to miramar college to meet with one of the polo coaches from a local high school, worked out at 24 hour fitness (got a free 7 day pass) with jen & dorothy (wonderful girls!) then home for a little dinner and hang out with the girls.

karolyn decided to wear her boots all day because she is leaving for wilderness on sunday… so she looked pretty cute in her dress & hiking boots. kar & i stayed up late talking while i was on FP (friend probation) per jamie sioux jackson (who i fondly refer to as “sioux-zee”).

Schneple Schisters

August 28, 2008

First of all, thanks to Raleigh for all of these witty, fun ideas she’s given us to use in our first blog!!

With all of that being said, let’s just jump right to it!  There’s four of us here living life, loving Jesus, learning a lot, loving each other, laughing incessantly, and listening intently.  Ok, I just got on a little ‘l’ roll there-but you know what I mean!  So, we figure we’ll use this first blog for the sole purpose of introducing ourselves!

Caitlin aka “C-Dawg”, 23, Grafton, WI

Karolyn aka “K-Hask”, 26, Scottsdale, AZ

Jamie aka “J-Jax”, 25, Long Beach, CA

Our negligent father of the home as of late-since she’s the only bread winner around here (yes, we’re buying into gender roles here).  We plan ahead for time together, however, due to work responsibilities, we are not able to get any quality time out of this one.  At one point, she was great to be around-always making shirts, coming up with creative little ideas, paying for our field trips, and always up for a good laugh.  Nowadays, she’s taking this “job” responsibility a little too seriously-and we’re trying hard to convince here that there is much more to life (namely three other Schneple sisters) that could use some lovin’!

Jenn aka “Jojo”, 26, Corpus Christi, TX

The ______ of the group.  Tries to play it off on burning pazookies and rationalizes it due to the momentary misplacement of her daughter, Ollie (see below).  She’s constantly clogging toilets, staining her clothes, and getting into other random shenanigans.

Ollie aka “Schneple Schnauser”, 2 1/3, Houston, TX
